Yuka is a Counselling Psychologist in Singapore. She is also a Licensed Psychologist in Japan and a board-approved Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, USA.
Since 1998, Yuka had trained and worked in various clinical, community and school settings in the United States and in Singapore. As an experienced psychologist and marriage and family therapist, Yuka has extensive experience in couple, family, and child therapy with such issues as relationships, marriage and divorce, family conflict, trauma and abuse, affairs, PTSD, domestic violence, grief and loss, parenting, infertility and reproductive health, miscarriage, pre-marital counselling, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, ADD/ADHD, life transition, identity exploration, multiculturalism, coping skills, anger management, school issues, social withdrawal, bullies, self esteem, sleep and insomnia, stress. She also enjoys facilitating educational classes such as parenting, mindfulness, marriage, pregnant women support group and giving seminars in local Japanese community.
As a bi-lingual and tri-cultural therapist with working experiences in Japan, Singapore and the USA, Yuka is highly sensitive on how culture differences play a key role during psychotherapy. Working with couples and families across cultural and racial divides has been her primary area of specialty for the past 20 years. Her professional experiences include the Nihon Bay Clinic (US), Alta Mira Counseling (US), California Registry of Ovum Donors (US), the Psychological Services Department at the College of San Mateo (US), the Cupertino Union School District (US), Japanese Association Clinic (SG), SAGE Counselling Centre for elderly and caregivers (SG) and Christian Counseling Center (US).
Yuka is trained in and employs an eclectic range of psychotherapies including the Gottman Method, Mindfulness-based therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-focused, Family Systems, Non-directive Child Therapy, Expressive Arts with children, and Client-Directed Outcome Informed.
In her free time, she likes to do yoga, mindfulness practice and discover new attractions in Singapore.
Yuka conducts therapy in English and Japanese.
