Daphne’s qualifications include a PhD and Master of Clinical Psychology from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Hons) from the University of Queensland. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Singapore Psychological Society. She was the previous Secretary of the Australian Psychological Society’s (APS) Psychology of Relationships Interest Group and co-authored several publications.
Daphne practises as a clinical psychologist in Singapore and works with adolescents (from 16 years onwards) and adults experiencing various distresses ranging from anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues to existential concerns, workplace stress and relationship difficulties (including sexual difficulties). Her main areas of interest lies in relationship and attachment concerns, existential issues and adjustment and stress disorders. Daphne recognises the importance of one’s earlier relationships in life, having completed her theses using Attachment Theory as a framework and identifying the impacts of relationships on individuals’ psychosocial functioning, with this a lens she adopts when identifying the effects of family and interpersonal relationships on mental wellbeing.
Daphne adopts a pluralistic and client-centred approach and integrates different therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Compassion-focused, Dialectical-Behaviour Therapy and Schema Therapy.
Daphne aims to provide a safe and non-judgmental space where the therapist and client work together to reach the client’s therapeutic goals. Every individual is unique and Daphne believes that therapy should reflect this eclecticism of the human psyche with therapy tailored to the individual’s needs.
Daphne believes that every individual can benefit from guidance and facilitation, yet ultimately has an innate intuition and wisdom that guides their actions and thought processes. Having lived in Australia for nearly half her life, Daphne is also comfortable working with a culturally-diverse population, and is sensitive to the process of acculturation and integration into novel communities. To ensure that clients receive the best care, she is also committed to continuing professional development, supervision and collaboration with other professionals.
Daphne has more than a decade’s experience practicing in both the community and private settings in Australia and Singapore. She has worked with neurotypical and neuro-divergent populations. Daphne conducts individual psychotherapy but will involve the client’s support network on occasions. She also administers personality assessments such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) on request.
Daphne is a lover and collector of vintage, and a wannabe interior designer (to create more space for all her barang).
Daphne provides therapy in English, and can attempt basic conversational Mandarin.
